Gum diseases are one of the most common oral diseases in the world and affects people of all ages. It can cause ongoing serious health problems if not cured timely.

Caused by a build-up of plaque and bacteria on the gum line, gum disease can lead to bleeding, inflammation and redness and can lead to tooth loss.

The best way to treat gum disease is to practice good oral hygiene, although additional dental and medical treatments are sometimes necessary.

Treatment:

  • Tooth cleaning and scaling
  • Fluoride rinses and gels
  • Root planing

Gum disease can be caused by any of the following:

  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Crooked teeth
  • Poor oral hygiene

  • If you have diabetes, cancer or other chronic disease.

To fight against gum disease, we recommend brushing and flossing at least twice a day, using dentist- recommended oral healthcare products and making regular visits to our hygienist.

If you spot signs of gum disease you can treat these at home by stepping up your hygiene routine and using dentist-approved products. If the symptoms do not improve, come and see at our clinic so we can take a closer look. Gum hygiene is important to ensure that your teeth remain supported and healthy.
